dsc_5570MEATMA launched its second store in Okahandja last week Friday. Meatco continues to strengthen its local MEATMA retail brand to various towns across Namibia.  Okahandja was the second MEATMA store to be opened, with the official opening taking place on 6th February 2015. The MEATMA retail shop was first launched in August last year in Windhoek to provide quality and affordable meat products to the nation.

At the official opening Meatco Board Chairlady Martha Namundjebo-Tilahun, said “Meatco’s objective through the MEATMA brand is to serve the nation at large with an affordable protein basket of high quality products, consistently and that is available at all times”.

“This is in support of the Government and in particular the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s ’Growth at Home strategy, by adding value locally to locally produced products”, Namundjebo-Tilahun added.

Witnessing the opening of the retail shop was Ripanda Meroro who represented the Mayor of Okahandja. He thanked Meatco’s renewed strategic focus area, the Local Markets and Value Addition department. “This will also help create the much needed jobs in this town as well as in the country, thus assisting in decreasing the unemployment rate in the country,” said Meroro.   According to Meroro, additional benefits such as skills and knowledge development for staff can’t be overemphasized and is key for the development of our country.

He urged the community to make use of this facility for affordable and healthy meat products. The retail shop is now opened to the general public. MEATMA is a complete range of quality and affordable meat products, produced in Namibia, for the enjoyment of everyone, at an affordable price.

Apart from being affordable, the public will have access to MEATMA “reward cards” which come with benefits applicable to the purchase of meat products. Rewards will be in the form of discounts for each purchase transaction.

Meatco’s Executive for Local Markets and Value Addition, Cyprianus Khaiseb at the launch thanked all staff members who were involved in the project, and encouraged them to continue with the same spirit for the future store to be opened.

The official launch of the MEATMA Okahandja shop is yet another achievement by Meatco in its efforts to bring development to all corners of the country, most especially in the rural areas, by bringing affordable and quality meat products. The store situated Northern industrial area of Okahandja, at the Meatco plant, is expected to serve small households as well as business community of the town.

Community members were invited to apply for the MEATMA cards and purchase their meat products at the newly launched store. They also enjoyed a tasting of the Chakalaka and Beef Griller wors at the opening. The Okahandja community can now also enjoy the variety of affordable braaiwors such as the Babalaas, Fiesta, BBQ and Legends. Beef patties, chicken, beef mince, Chiefs Choice econo burgers, hindquarter leg, forequarter, shin and club steak are also available through the outlet.

“I am very happy that the store has finally come to Okahandja, and that we the public can also buy from Meatco. Before, we had to ask friends working at Meatco to buy for us, now I can buy myself, said Susanne Steenkamp, a local Okahandja resident.

Also at the event, Calvine Gille said that “the prices are good and fair on my pocket. I am very happy that the MEATMA store is finally here and open to us the public to buy. The wors that I tasted today is very delicious, so I am eager to try other products”.
