Meatco, recognises and appraises farmers from across the length and breadth of Namibia for producing exceptional quality animals for Meatco based also on merit and quantity. These animals are marketed to Meatco through establishing delivering agreements for slaughtering and feedlot purposes. Meatco makes it a point to acknowledge farmers hard work, dedication and perseverance through this prestigious event the Producer of the Year (POYA) Award held annually. There are befitting criterions based on which the producers are recognised, they vary from highest volume total delivered for sales (live) and slaughter, to Top Producers of the Year which is determined by 60% merit points, 25% quality and 15% quantity. The winners are thus not hand-picked at Meatco’s discretion, on the contrary they are based on delivery data. This is because as a world class abattoir Meatco aims to market high standard premium beef locally, regionally and internationally. Moreover, the POYA is also a platform where above all else farmers converge to share success formulas other than to merely celebrate triumphs.
