We currently produce corned meat under the TEXAN brand. It comes in three flavours – plain, chilli and chakalaka. It is manufactured in a 300g square can. The products is widely consumed in the SADC region, and has also found it’s space within the West African market, namely in Nigeria at this stage. The cannery is in the process of widening its range with exiting new products, such as Viennas, Chicken Loaf and Luncheon Roll. All these new products will come in a 400g round can and will be available in February 2016. These new investments relate to Meatco’s commitment to grow the business and provide our clients with affordable protein products. All our canned products are produced under stringent regulatory requirements and supervision, and have a guaranteed shelf life of 5 years in a room temperature environment.
Our canned beef range is part of the legacy of Meatco’s production since the early 1980s. The Texan, Eloolo and Ranch brands, which are household names in Namibia and Southern Africa, are part of a long and proud tradition for Meatco. Our canning operation annually produces almost 16 million cans of corned beef of various sizes and according to specific recipes that many have grown to love. Our canned products are ISO-, HACCP- and Halaal-certified.
The development of our canning activities is part of Meatco’s five-year strategic plan, which is aimed at increasing local value-addition activities specifically focused on export markets.
Our strategy involves first developing and testing certain foreign markets utilising our current capacity, before embarking on the expansion of our capacity through further investment should a market prove promising.
The development of additional products such as Chicken Loaf, Luncheon Roll, Spaghetti and Meatballs and Canned Viennas is ongoing, and these products are designed for the domestic and regional market.
