Wits MBA Students Tour Meatco

29 Nov 2019

Wits Business School (WBS), as part of its broader objective to expose its Master of Business Administration (MBA) students to cultural diversity and offer them unique insight into the origins, opportunities and challenges of modern businesses and government organisations in emerging and developed markets, organises a mandatory international study tour as a key component of the curriculum.

As Namibia’s leading exporter of prime beef, Meatco took the students on a tour of its renowned facilities.

According to Meatco, the purpose of the visit was to apprise the students on the functions and operations of Meatco while also indulging them on the major functions of the Quality Assurance (QA) department, compliance with legal requirements and specifications, industry standards, internal company standards, shelf-life tests and customer specifications.

Given all the processing in abattoirs, it is essential that QA is maintained. All Meatco's processes are in keeping with international standards, and meat is tested daily at Meatco's internal laboratory.

With the systems currently in place, Meatco is able to trace its meat products. If a problem is detected, Meatco can easily trace the cattle back to the source.

The was quite an experience for the delegation, who asked a number of questions seeking clarity on various aspects of the Meatco business.

WBS ranks among the leading business schools in Africa and is a member of the Partnership in International Management Network (a consortium of leading business schools on the globe).
