Meatco this week sent out the nominations, from its members and employees, of persons to serve on the Meatco Board of Directors to the Minister of Agriculture, Water and Forestry, Mr John Mutorwa, who will make the final appointments.

The new board is expected to take over from the current board at the end of August 2013 and will serve for a period of three years.

Nominations for the Meatco Board of Directors took place during the 27th Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was held on 21 June 2013.

Meatco members were given the opportunity to vote for individuals to represent the interests of the Communal Farmers, Commercial Farmers, as well as individuals possessing expertise in the management of abattoirs, trading of livestock and livestock products or any business or financial sphere.

To ensure transparency and credibility of results, voting was done by means of a secret ballot, in full view of the current Meatco Board and the Company Secretary, with the assistance of the corporation’s external auditors – PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). All cast ballots were collected and counted by PwC afterwards.

Due to the above-mentioned process, the results could not be communicated to members during the AGM and are therefore made available through the E-newsletter, the media and the Meatco website.
