Meatco Namibia on Friday, 11 February 2011, officially launched its 2011 National Braai Competition which will be hosted by Kalkplato Farmers’ Association (FA) on 8 and 9 April at the Mariental Sports Grounds. This year’s theme is “A Kalahari Party” and all FA’s are invited to join in the fun.
Meatco’s National Braai Competition is an annual platform for communal and commercial Farmers Associations (FAs) from across Namibia to engage on a social level whilst demonstrating their cooking skills over the open fire. The competition also has a social category for businesses and the public to enter.
Kalkplato FA participated in the competition for the first time ever last year and wowed their competitors when they walked away with the N$70 000 cash in prize money to host this year’s event on their home field.
Same as previous years, the competition will again take on a ready, steady, cook format. This means the ingredients will only be made known to the participants on the morning of the event. This format levels the playing field for all participants, whether they have been participating for 15 years or if it is their first time.
Apart from the N$70 000 at “steak” for the conquering FA to host the competition in their area, the social teams will be competing for N$10000. Many additional prizes to the value of tens of thousands Namibian Dollar are also up for grabs.
What is more, the hosts of this year’s event, the Kalkplato FA, announced that all participating FAs who have to travel more than 250 km to the event, qualify for a N$500,00 fuel voucher.
All communal and commercial FA’s are thus heartily invited to buff their braai utensils and enter teams of 3 on or before Friday, 18 February 2011. Competition entry fees for social teams are N$500, whilst FAs enjoy free participation.
