Meatco Namibia donates computer equipment to schools in the NCA

Meatco Namibia, with the aid of Schoolnet Namibia, recently donated much needed computer equipment to three schools in the Northern Communal Areas (NCA) of Namibia.

The three schools that benefitted from this donation were the Etilyasa Primary School just outside of Okahao, the Outapi Special School and the Kameru Senior Primary School in Opuwo.

The computer equipment handed over to each school consisted of five refurbished computers and a new server, as well as computer tables and cabling. Beaming with excitement, many of these learners saw a computer for the first time when the equipment was unpacked and installed.

The principal of Etilyasa Primary school, Mr. Paulus Nangolo, thanked Meatco during the handing-over ceremony and said that “You (Meatco) have no idea of the difference you are making to the school and the lives of these learners.”

Schoolnet Namibia assisted Meatco by refurbishing 15 of its old computers, loading them with free operational and educational software for use by the learners in these schools, as well as with the installation thereof at the respective schools.

Included in the software packages were programs to assist learners with learning how to use a computer, mouse and keyboard; and software to help both the learners and their teachers to obtain their International Computer Driver’s License (ICDL). ICDL certification is part of Government’s plan to roll out ICT-education and certification to all the regions of Namibia.

“Learners will be able to sharpen their mathematics, physical science and language skills by using these computers,” remarked one of the teachers at the Kameru Primary School.

Present at the handing over ceremony was Meatco’s Northern Communal Areas Board Committee Representative of the Omusati and Oshana regions, Mr. Opeipawa Killian Shiyagaya, who in a brief address stated that this donation forms part of Meatco’s broader corporate social responsibility and that specifically “these computers are a sign of Meatco’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of the less fortunate people and uplifting the communities it serves, even in the remote areas.”

“This is good for the school, the teachers and the community,” was the final remark from Mr. Sekemo Mumbuu, principal of Kameru Senior Primary School in Opuwo.
