Meatco Namibia has once again raised the industry benchmark with it’s free range beef products to be promoted on an international television cooking series later this year. Meatco and its producers will receive global acclaim during a 13 series cooking program to be screened on DStv, as the exclusive suppliers of hormone-free beef to Woolworths South Africa (SA).
The program will focus on healthy, organic foods that have been produced in harmony with nature. The exposure for Woolworths and its suppliers is immeasurable, with Meatco to be promoted as the only free range beef producer in Southern Africa.
Meatco, together with Excellent Meat – a SA manufacturing partner - has been the exclusive suppliers of free range beef to Woolworths since 2007. Meatco has over the past three years built on this relationship by consistently supplying top quality products as per the consumers’ needs and specifications.
Committed to delivering optimal returns for its producers and to develop a sustainable beef industry in Namibia, Meatco continuously seeks new premium markets. Woolworths is but one of many initiatives Meatco has successfully delivered for its producers. No other local meat processor has achieved such a milestone.
Meatco earns a premium for its producers by capitalizing on the unique selling points of Namibian meat, namely the fact that it is produced on natural grazing and in line with stringent quality standards set by the European Union (EU).
Says Meatco’s Project Manager: Marketing, Ms. Lelanie Basson, “Worldwide, quality has been replaced with convenience and mass production, but a few companies have managed to master the art of natural beef production. Meatco is one of them. It sources its beef from Namibian farmers who raise and manage their herds in line with Woolworths’ free range beef specifications. These specifications, amongst other, include predator friendly farming; the non-use of growth stimulants as well asethical farming based on sound business practices.”
Woolworths is a leading food retailer that equals some of the best found in Europe. Their brand has become synonymous with innovation, quality and value for money. They take great pride in harboring products that have been produced in harmony with nature and compliment the lifestyles of today’s savvy consumers. This makes Meatco’s supreme quality Namibian beef such an easy and best fit.
The programme, Cooked 5 with SA filmmaker and cook Justin Bonello, is part of Woolworths’ Summer campaign in search of good food. The series is currently being filmed on a 16,000 hectare farm east of Windhoek and will broadcast on the BBC Lifestyle Channel. The exact screening dates will be confirmed at a later stage.

An international film crew recently visited Namibia to shoot a cooking program that will feature Meatco and its proudcers of free range beef products on DSTV.
