Meatco recently hosted the media day at the Okapuka Feedlot under the theme of Backward Integration Excursion. The event took place on Thursday 25th November 2015, where journalists from the different media houses were treated to a tour at the Okapuka Feedlot 20km outside Windhoek.

The idea behind the media day is to enlighten journalists on Meatco Operations, how it sources its raw material to achieve world class export products, by focusing the tour on Meatco’s major strategic function of procuring animals for slaughter. Journalists from Agriforum, NBC Tirelo ya Setswana, Kanaal 7 and The Namibian attended the media day and were given great insight by the feedlot manager Frikkie Booysen and Abrie van Wyk, the Manager for Livestock Procurement: Commercial.

The journalists were impressed with the feedlot structure and operations, and were happy to have a better understanding of the Backward Integration Initiative and the Meatco Owned Cattle (MOC) project.

After the tour and presentation, the journalists enjoyed a lunch by a nearby riverbed where they were also tested on the general and current affairs knowledge. Investigative reporter, Tileni Monghudi, of The Namibian, came out as the winner of the brain teaser.
